Applying to Rise

If you are a parent or guardian who believes that your child should be challenged and supported academically, then Rise is the school for you.

We hold our lottery to admit incoming classes in August 2009. If you are interested in applying to the school, please complete an application as soon as possible so that your child will be eligible for the August 8, 2009 lottery.

Parents of children who are admitted to Rise school through the lottery process will receive a phone call conferring acceptance and will be invited to a Family Orientation event. The Family Orientation is not mandatory, but we do recommend that you attend. If your child is in the lottery and you have not received a phone call by August 14, 2009, this means your child is on the waiting list, and the school will call you if a space becomes available.

Applications for 2009-2010 are still available for grades K, 1, 2, 6 and 7. All applications received after the August 8, 2009 deadline will be added to the waiting list, pending availability in the enrolled classes.

Rise Academy-South Dade Charter School

On August 24, 2009, Rise Academy-South Dade Charter School will open its doors for students in Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, Sixth Grade and Seventh Grade.

All NEW Sixth and Seventh Graders have Mandatory Orientation from Monday, August 17, 2009 to Friday, August 21, 2009 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at: 103 E. Lucy Street in Florida City. All students should wear khaki bottoms wthout cargo pockets, a brown or black belt, all-black sneakers (required every day as part of the uniform) and a plain white, grey or black T-shirt with no writing of any kind. All students should continue to report to this location for the duration of the school year.

Kindergarten, First and Second Grade students will report to school on Monday, August 24, 2009 at 8:00 AM at: 103. E. Lucy Street. Kindergarten, First and Second Grade students should continue to report to this location all school year

School Uniform

Elementary School Students
Elementary school students must be in full uniform every day. If a student is not in uniform, their parent or guardian will have to return to school to bring them the missing uniform item. The full uniform is:

1) A Rise Academy polo shirt with the Rise Academy logo (available in the front office in navy blue, hunter green and white).
2) Khaki pants, shorts, skirt or jumper. No cargo pockets and no extra zippered pockets permitted.
3) Sneakers (students must wear rubber-soled sneakers because they have recess every day). No shoes that light up, no wheels, no Heelys. Students that can not tie their shoes must wear shoes with Velcro).

Middle School Students
Middle school students must be in full uniform every day. If a student is not in uniform, their parent or guardian will have to return to school to bring them the missing uniform item. The full uniform is:

1) A Rise Academy oxford shirt with the Rise Academy logo (available in the front office in light blue or white). Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
2) Khaki pants, shorts, skirt or jumper. No cargo pockets and no extra zippered pockets permitted. All bottoms must be knee length at minimum and not too tight or too loose.
3) A brown or black belt must be worn at all times with shorts or pants.
4) White or black socks
5) All-black sneakers that are tied at all times. Sneakers must be all black with no other color visible on the outside of the shoe; laces must be all black. Any visible logo must be all black.
